Baked Egg Vegetable Ragu
This afternoon I hit the McCarren Greenmarket with one thing on my mind: vegetable ragu with a baked egg and crusty bread. I had seen Chef Eric Ripert prepare something similar on a cooking show recently and it seemed like a perfect brunch dish. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find the vegetables I had in mind at the Greenmarket (does anyone else feel like the market is lacking in a...

Mango Gazpacho
I was in Washington for most of the last week for my friends Melissa and Sean’s wedding (more on that later!) I didn’t cook while I was there, so I suppose that’s what has sparked this flood of posts the last two days. Plus I visited Whole Foods while running on nothing but coffee yesterday and practically bought the entire store. Never grocery shop while hungry! This Mango...

Oui, S'il Vous Plaît
I woke up this morning with souffles on my mind. I took advantage of the leftover feta in my fridge and added chives for a little onion flavor. Paired with a citrusy salad of mixed greens, this was a light and delicious French-inspired lunch.

Grapefruit with Mint and Honey
When I was a kid, I refused to eat grapefruit unless it was served piled with brown sugar. Now that I’ve matured into a sophisticated lady, it’s mint and honey all the way.
Grapefruit with Mint & Honey Grapefruit Honey Fresh mint, chopped
Cut up grapefruit. Drizzle with honey and toss with chopped mint.

Sugar Snap Peas with Mint & Feta
Is there anything better than a sweet, crunchy sugar snap pea? They’re one of those vegetables that I could eat a pound of without blinking an eye. I’ve been thinking about combining them with mint and feta in a salad after I was inspired a couple of weeks back. This simple recipe is perfect for spring. It’s pea season!

Sugar Lips
When I moved to the East Coast nearly 7(!) years ago, one thing I noticed was the lack of maple bars, one of my favorite doughnuts growing up. I remember spending Sunday mornings at my Grandma Thora and Grandpa Jack’s house, where our breakfast would consist of a maple bar and raspberries in cream. Unhealthy, but so comforting.
I’ve been thinking about those days a lot - learning to...

Oven-Roasted Chickpeas
If you know me, you know how much I love snacking. Anything bite size always gets priority when I’m hungry. In fact, I had a pretty bad grape tomato addiction for a while. Today I made my own snack: Roasted Chickpeas. You can bake them as long as you want until they’re at the desired crunchiness level, and they’re healthier for you than shoving fistfuls of potato chips in...

Village Voice 10 Best Veggie Burgers
Are veggie burgers the new hip food trend? Seriously! Everyone’s got an opinion.
The best veggie burger I’ve ever had was one that my friend’s dad prepared for me on a grill while I was with vacationing with her family in Hawaii when I was 17.

More Veggie Burger Discussion
The New York Times has another article about veggie burgers today. They’re really into veggie burgers these days, eh?
I wish they would pay me to go and taste test them all. I’d do a nice write up!
Speaking of veggie burgers, why don’t you try my lentil burger recipe?

Pickled Beets
I opened a can of pickled beets during a snack attack two days ago and after realizing high fructose corn syrup was an ingredient, quickly resolved to pickle my own. I have little experience with pickling vegetables, so I used this recipe as inspiration and went from there.
Pickled Beets 3 beets, with greens removed 2/3 cup cider vinegar 1 1/2 tbls olive oil 1 1/2 tbls sugar 1...

Compliments to the Chef(s)
I’ve spent the last week or two letting other people cook for me. While I apologize for the lack of posts, it’s been worth it. So, so worth it.
Last Sunday I spent an evening with a nice mix of friends and strangers down on Java Street. Brooklyn Fork and Spoon is a monthly vegetarian-based supper club in Greenpoint, run by Mardi of Sprout & Pea and Rebecka of Martha, Mom and...
anattractiveweird asked: I just made the decision to be vegetarian and found your blog. I was really excited because you post a lot of information about vegetarian places in new york city, and I go to school here. And then I read more of it and saw that you went to college in Bellingham... I am from Olympia, I feel like this was fate.
