Strawberry Pie
I haven’t mentioned Montreal!  I went there.  I ate at more vegetarian/vegan restaurants in a weekend than in the time I’ve been in New York.  Thanks to Omar, Nana, Katie and Mitz for making it a great trip.  In big life-changing news, I became an Auntie this week!  Marion Grace was born on August 25th at 4am PST.  I will (try to) keep the baby gushing to a minimum, but...

More Soon, I Promise
I have blog guilt!  It’s been a few weeks since a proper cooking post, which is partially not my fault since my stove broke.  And I spent the first part of this week eating only toast with tahini sauce cause I still hadn’t gone to the grocery store.  Plus I became an Auntie.  Okay, these excuses are cheap.  I promise this weekend will see me in the kitchen.  Until then, the lion cat:

Unrelated to food post.
I made it to Montreal (barely.)  Did you know that buses are impossible to sleep on? They are! I had my grumpy face on for 7 hours straight and mints from a vending machine were my only sustenance.  But that’s all behind me now! I’ll be co-hosting Hooked on Sonics with my nearest and dearest Omar tonight from 6-8pm EST on CJLO! You can tune in online - just “click to listen...

Philadelphia, Philadelphia
I didn’t cook this weekend!  Philadelphia was too fun to be in a kitchen.  That being said, we did have some great food while we were there, not to mention a lengthy tour of Eastern State Penitentiary, a visit to the Mutter Museum, hangin’ with Emma’s mom and other adventures (like breaking out in hives! All over my face!) Food: Parc Brasserie Stopped in for lunch here on Friday...

TBLT (Tofu Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato)
It has been approximately 14 years since I’ve had a piece of bacon (unless you count the time I accidentally ate some on a veggie burger while living in Boston… not my fault!)  I have, however, had countless versions of veggie bacon from Morningstar Farms, Lightlife and my personal favorite, Vinnie’s Pizza here in Greenpoint.  I’ve even made my own from tempeh. Yesterday I...

Monday Macarons
One of my favorite places to dig for new recipe ideas is Tastespotting, which is an aggregate of various cooking sites.  Not only is it searchable, but it always has the loveliest photos taken by people with much experience than I. The best cookie to drool over?  The French Macaron.  Airy, chewy and sweet, they come in a rainbow of colors and flavors and are notoriously difficult to make. A few...

Soul Scramble
Brunch is typically a main event on weekends in New York (Need suggestions? I like here, here, here, here and here), but sometimes it’s good to turn on some soul music and make breakfast at home. I love eggs, so I never understood the point of a tofu scramble until last weekend.  When I was in Atlanta, Maria and I grabbed a vegan brunch at Soul Vegetarian, where I took the tofu scramble...

The Terrible Tofu
What do you make when nothing is making you feel good?  I spent the majority of today laid up in bed and had to cancel my conference calls in hopes of feeling better.  Now I’ll be spending the rest of tonight catching up on work and hoping the waves of nausea pass.  Sounds like prime time to talk about food!  I bought a couple of mangoes the other day and figured I’d better put...

Power Lunch
As you may or may not know, I work from home.  Dream scenario, right?  Well yes and no.  Sometimes I miss the simple things, like getting out of the house for hours on end and being around people (for those things, I escape to my beloved Cafe Grumpy.) There is a plus though, and that is called lunch.  My kitchen sits about three feet from my “office,” so it’s a cinch to whip...

A Few of Your Favorite Things
And we’re back! On the East Coast that is.  Between work, the flight to Atlanta, pool lounging, seeing Tiffany and Clarence get hitched, attending a fish fry (I resisted a taste test,) and eating a vegetarian soul food brunch at Soul Vegetarian, I haven’t had a chance to sit down and rehash a meal I made way back in Washington.  I hadn’t cooked for my mom before, so I was...
